The NY Daily News is reporting that NY State government has officially approved bereavement leave for gay & lesbian couples. While this is probably not the happiest topic for many couples and families to think about...protecting our rights as a community in difficult times of mourning is an important step in the direction of giving us full equality under the law.

ALBANY - Gays and lesbians will be able to take bereavement leave under a new state law.
It requires employers who provide their opposite-sex employees with paid funeral leave for a spouse or a spouse's family member to extend the same paid leave time to "same-sex committed partners."
"We must continue onward toward the goal of equality," Paterson said in signing the law. Same-sex committed partners under the law are considered "those who are financially and emotionally interdependent."

I feel like if we keep protecting our rights we will have the freedom to every where in the united states so keep fighting for whats right
