4-20

Today is April 20th. In addition to being the Day of Silence for LGBT Youth the day is also celebrated worldwide by fans of Marijuana.  There are a number of myths as to what 4-20 actually means but no one seems to know the truth behind the legend.  I don't pretend to know either.

Marijuana is the subject of huge debate these days.  A number of states have lowered or eliminated penalties for possession of small amounts and other states have enacted medical marijuana laws.

The drug has been the subject of intense news coverage over the last few years.  Many individuals say that continued prohibition of marijuana similar to what was done in the early 1900's with alcohol is not working and the war on drugs is money being wasted.

Certainly there are arguments to be made for and against legalization of Marijuana.  Smoking anything has risks to it including cancer and other lung ailments.  In some individuals Marijuana smoking causes mental health problems including psychological dependence, anxiety, paranoia, and depression.  Sexual risk taking also increases in some people who are under the influence. These are just some of the negative aspects of marijuana.

For others Marijuana causes no issues and has been proven beneficial for those dealing with chronic illness such as Glaucoma, Cancer, and HIV.

So on today National 4-20 Day what is your take on weed, grass, marijuana, herb, etc?  With all the dialogue going on surrounding it lets discuss!   Also check out this blog from 2011 by Erik on Homophobia since it is the Day of Silence.
