HIV Vaccine Awareness Day

May 18th is HIV Vaccine Awareness Day.

As the article I have linked to points out over 35,000 people have participated in a number of trials over the last 25 years working towards development of an effective vaccine for the cure or prevention of HIV Infection..

Studies done locally and nationally working towards vaccines have helped develop effective treatments for individuals infected with HIV and thus prolonging lives and making being infected with the virus much more bearable.

The Victory Alliance which is our local arm of the national vaccine trials has several different studies which they are currently recruiting for.

I would encourage anyone who thinks they may be interested in participating or know someone who is interested to contact the Victory Alliance.

Although the ultimate goal would be a cure for HIV, an effective preventative vaccine is also one of the most desireable outcomes of any vaccine study.

Hopefully in 25 years we will be talking of the HIV virus in the past tense.

For more information on how to get involved locally contact the Victory Alliance.
