Today marks the first day of LGBT History Month. This five year old project by the Equality Forum is according to LGBT History Month's wesbite a celebration that "...provides role models, builds community and makes the civil rights statement of our extraordinary national and international contributions."
They have all kinds of ideas for how to celebrate the month ranging from screenings of LGBT movies and documentaries (you can certainly celebrate locally by attending an ImageOUT film) or submitting an article to a local newspaper. You could also celebrate the month by working to make your school or health and human services more lgbt inclusive by hosting a presentation by our team. For more ideas click here.
Since this is the 5th anniversary of LGBT History Month there are materials that include all of the representatives from each year. You can even search for a specific person.
They also have a large number of resources ranging from biographies, free ready to print posters, photos to use for media distribution (for FREE!), and even table tents that would be an affordable and informative decoration for an event.
Good luck spreading the word about LGBT History Month and don't forget to check back to LGBT History Month's website each day for a new highlighted figure.
Feel free to leave ideas in the comments for how you plan to celebrate.
