As of 9am this morning the organization Liberty Hill has launched a $75,000 scholarship initiative to pay the $465 application fee required to pay for deferred action applications. Under the Obama administration policy "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals" (DACA) youth and young adults applying for deferred action receive temporary relief from deportation and a potential two year work permit that is eligible for renewal. For more information on the guidelines for DACA, please click here.
In order to apply for the scholarship you need to meet the DACA guidelines and have a ITIN number. Applicants are encouraged to speak with a lawyer about eligibility requirements or for any other questions they have about DACA.
The application will be open through October 31, 2012. Once the scholarship application has been processed, you will here from Liberty Hill no later than October 31, 2012.
If you would like more background on the fundraising behind the scholarships I encourage you to read this article by the National Center for Lesbian Rights.
Liberty Hill, the organization administering the scholarships, is located in Los Angeles, CA but there is nothing on the website stating you need to live in Los Angeles, CA to be eligible.
