Alternatives to the Slopes - Winter Fitness in Rochester

Now that we've finally got snow here in Rochester, NY I figured it's time to get excited about all the winter fun Rochester has to offer. As a lifelong Upstate New Yorker I also understand that "getting excited about winter" and staying active can be a challenge. So, I've wrangled up a variety of activities that can be done alone or in a group or as a couple. Since skiing and snowboarding are so widely covered this time of year I've provided other outdoor and indoor fitness opportunities.

Health Benefits

Along with improving heart health, reducing your risk of obesity and related health issues, physical activity also improves you mental health. According to the Mayo Clinic staff, you "feel" better when you excercise because exercise: releases neurotransmitters and endorphins (feel-good brain chemicals that can decrease depression), reduces chemicals in your immune system that can worsen depression and increases your body temperature (which may be calming).
