Empire State Pride Agenda and New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) have partnered to organize the TRANScribe Project. The TRANScribe project is in its early stages of collecting stories, but its ultimate goal, according to Empire State Pride Agenda, is to to create "a collection of stories that display the diverse experiences and identities of transgender New Yorkers. These stories are told through our own words as transgender, gender non-conforming and allied New Yorkers." The information I received about the project also explained that the trans peoples' stories "show the public that we are a diverse and vibrant part of New York's communities."
The project is particularly interested in collecting stories related to experiences around healthcare, housing, employment and the "home," meaning in one's family. Along with collecting stories of trans and gender non-conforming folks, the project also wants to hear from their partners, parents, siblings, supervisors, spiritual leaders, etc. who can also tell the story of an ally.
The campaign will be a part of a public education and advocacy campaign around the passage of GENDA.
