This Friday marks the start of ImageOUT: The Rochester Area Lesbian & Gay Film & Video Festival.
According to ImageOUT's website the festival was established in 1993,
"...In 1993, the Rochester Lesbian & Gay Film & Video Festival was established under the auspices of The Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley and The Rochester Lesbian and Gay Political Caucus. The first festival included 18 programs and 100 films and videos and focused upon celebrating and documenting the past and present of the global Lesbian and Gay community. Each show attracting almost 90% of the theatre's capacity so the festival founders knew they started a vital and exciting community event. The Rochester LGBT community had received their first taste of what would become the largest annual cultural event in our community."
This year, the ten day festival that runs from October 7th through October 17th and boasts 82 films from 20 different countries. Within these films are a variety of series including a youth series.

Absolutely! I got involved with ImageOut many years ago when I was still in college and a good friend of mine convinced me to join their board of directors---which I sat on for about 6 amazing years. Since then I have continued to be a regular festival-goer and supporter....and now my husband and I are able to support the festival every year financially as members. ImageOut is a highlight of the year for my us....WE LOVE IT!! If you have never been to one of the films, I can't stress enough how great it is....I strongly encourage everyone in our community to support ImageOut (both financially and with your presence). It's definitely one of the best LGBT organizations in Rochester....if not the entire region!!
