New York LGBT Health Month 2010!

Just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who made our first Annual NY LGBT Health Month here in Rochester a wonderful time of celebration, learning, having fun, being heard and supporting one another.

An extra special thanks to all of the organizations and individuals that planned, hosted and presented at events: AIDS Care, The AIDS Care Minority AIDS Initiative, Terry Schwartz and Craig Durie of Rochester Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Planned Parenthood, The MOCHA Center, the panelists at the Diagnosing Difference screening, the panelists at the Transgender Healthcare Community Panel, The Gay Alliance, RATED F, The Rochester Gay Men's Chorus, ImageOUT, Rainbow SAGE, EqualityROC, The Empire State Pride Agenda, The Monroe County Department of Health, The New York State Department of Health, Tawa Pano, The Flying Squirrel Community Space, and Out & Equal.

The 8th Annual National LGBT Health Awareness Week 2010 is actually still going on for another couple of days, from March 23 - April 3. The theme for this year is 'Closing the Gap,' since we know that too often, healthcare is less accessible and there are still worse health outcomes for LGBT communities as opposed to straight or heternormative and gendernormative communities. For more information or to learn more about National LGBT Health Awareness Week, visit the official website for this year.

Visit our 31 ways page and continue to use the great health tips that were shared this month all year long!

Let's keep the positive momentum going and encourage ourselves and each other all year long to be healthy, happy and proud!
