Get involved, get connected.

Many LGBT people report feelings of isolation---especially youth, seniors and those in rural communities. Connecting with other LGBT people, getting support and building community can be the foundation of a healthy life. Seek out LGBT groups and organizations in your area---join a club/group or volunteer---and connect with other LGBT people in your area!

Additionally - the LGBT Health and Human Services Needs Assessment (a survey done among LGBT people in NYS last year) reports that "people who go to events at LGBT centers were less likely to say that they were lonely." And they state that many of the participants of the survey "don't necessarily see themselves as needing 'hard' services like counseling, but they definitely need the socialization, the interaction with other LGBT people. They need that sense of gay culture in order to be well..."

In Rochester, the Empty Closet newspaper is a great resource that features news, events, community organizations and groups and LGBT affirming services in the area - pick one up today!

Equal=Grounds is a local coffee shop that, to use their own description off their website, was founded on the basis that in a world of such great diversity among people, there can be a safe place for everyone to meet and be themselves. There is always something going on, so stop in for a cup of coffee, relax and hang out!
